Romeu and 2 more players didn’t travel to the Asian tour

Barcelona has departed for their Asia tour with almost the entire first team squad. The only players left behind are the injured Marc-André Ter Stegen, Pau Víctor (who is expected to transfer to Sporting Braga in the coming hours), and Oriol Romeu. Hansi Flick decided that the midfielder would be the sole player to stay in Barcelona, training individually. This decision hasn’t gone down well with Romeu, a player who has never caused problems for the Blaugrana club and who could have continued training with the team until a solution for his departure was found.

Oriol Romeu returned from his loan spell at Girona in July and was called up for medical tests with the rest of his teammates. He has been training with the squad recently, but Flick informed him that he was not in his plans, a decision he had previously made with other players like Ansu Fati. Ultimately, both the coach and the sporting director decided that Romeu would not board the plane, making him the only player left out and putting him in an awkward position.

Barcelona will allow him to continue working at the club’s training facilities with club staff for his physical care, but he will do so practically alone despite not being injured. This is a form of pressure that neither the player nor his camp understands, especially as they are awaiting negotiations with technical staff to finalize his departure.

Oriol Romeu has interested teams awaiting his dissociation from Barça, but the terms of his exit have not yet been discussed. It is most likely that there will be a termination of the remaining year on his contract, meaning the Blaugrana club will have to pay him a portion of the amount he would have received until June 2026. Reaching a mutually beneficial agreement should not be a problem.

From here, the midfielder will choose his destination from the offers he has, although this will likely be delayed until next week. Girona is one of the teams keeping an eye on his future, as they would like to re-sign a player who has always been important in Míchel’s schemes.
