Fermín López Marín (El Campillo, Huelva, May 11, 2003) is a Spanish footballer who plays as a midfielder for F.C. Barcelona in the Spanish Primera División.

Career

Fermín Lopez began his youth career at El Campillo until 2011. He then continued his development in the youth categories of Recreativo de Huelva in the 2011-12 season and Real Betis from 2012 to 2016. In the 2016-17 season, he arrived at La Masía, F.C. Barcelona’s renowned academy, joining the Infantil “A” team. He steadily progressed through the ranks, and in the 2021-22 season, he was part of the Juvenil “A” squad, with whom he achieved a double: winning the División de Honor league title and the Copa de Campeones.

After completing his formative years, Fermín Lopez renewed his contract with F.C. Barcelona for two seasons until 2024. On August 18 of that year, he was loaned to Linares Deportivo of the Spanish Primera Federación.

He made his debut with Barça’s first team in a 5-3 defeat against Arsenal F.C. in a friendly match. On July 29, 2023, Fermin Lopez scored and provided an assist in a 3-0 victory over Real Madrid. Two months later, he scored his first official goal in a 2-2 draw with R.C.D. Mallorca in La Liga.

In the Champions League, he scored two goals, the last of which came in a 3-1 victory over S.S.C. Napoli in the round of 16. At that point, he was already a full member of the first team. Among his notable goals was another against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. In the final match of the season, he reached 11 goals, consolidating himself as the team’s second-highest scorer for the campaign.

National Team

On October 17, 2023, Fermín made his debut with the Spain U-21 national team in a 2025 U-21 Euro Championship qualifier against the Kazakhstan U-21 team, in which he scored a goal.

The following June 5, he made his senior national team debut in a friendly against Andorra, contributing to the win by providing an assist to Ferran Torres. Two days later, he was called up to participate in Euro 2024, where he played in one match and secured the championship.

On June 22, Fermín Lopez was called up by Santi Denia for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In the tournament, he played as an attacking midfielder and was a starter in all matches except the last one of the group stage. He proved decisive, scoring six goals and finishing as the second-highest scorer in the competition, only behind Morocco’s Soufiane Rahimi.

The Spanish Olympic football team was crowned champion for the second time in its history, following the Olympic gold won 32 years prior at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games. In the final, played on August 9 at the Parc des Princes stadium, the Spanish team defeated hosts France 5-3, with two goals from Fermín.

With this gold medal, Fermín Lopez, along with Álex Baena, his teammate in the national team, and French player Albert Rust, are the only players to win both the European Championship and an Olympic gold medal in the same year.
