Famous super agent pushes Barcelona to sign UCL finalist

Denzel Dumfries has once again surfaced as a potential target for FC Barcelona, but the club’s financial limitations continue to block any serious progress.

The Dutch right-back, who recently featured in the UEFA Champions League final with Inter Milan, had been linked to Barça earlier this summer. However, with a reported price tag of €25 million, Dumfries currently remains out of reach for the Catalan club.

Despite this, super agent Jorge Mendes is actively pushing for a deal. According to journalist Gianluigi Longari, Mendes is lobbying for Barcelona to sign Dumfries as a solution to strengthen the right-back position.

Mendes has a well-established relationship with Joan Laporta and the Barça board, having been involved in several high-profile deals in recent years. Yet, even his influence hasn’t been enough to generate real interest this time.

The reason? Barcelona are backing Jules Koundé as their first-choice right-back under Hansi Flick. The French international has proven himself in the role and has earned the trust of the coaching staff heading into the 2025/26 season.

While clubs like Manchester City have reportedly shown interest in Koundé, Barça remain confident in keeping him and even extending his contract in the near future.

As for Dumfries, Barça would certainly see value in bringing him in as competition or cover—but given the current financial landscape, spending €25 million on a backup simply isn’t realistic.
